Onshore excursions
Excursions as part of HUSUM WIND 2025 – Experience innovation, shape the future.
As part of HUSUM WIND 2025, we warmly invite you to take part in our exclusive technical excursions. Discover innovative projects, sustainable technologies, and practical applications in the fields of renewable energy and the hydrogen economy – directly on site in Schleswig-Holstein.
Choose from six highly relevant tours, each focusing on different aspects of the energy transition in Northern Germany – from wind power test fields and hydrogen refueling stations to battery storage, sustainability consulting, and virtual power plants.
Please note: Each tour is limited to 38 participants – secure your ticket early!
Tour 1: Windtestfeld Nord
(Wind Farm in der Südermarsch)
Wednesday, 17 September 2025
The Windtestfeld Nord, located in the Südermarsch near Husum, was established in 2013 and currently offers six sites for testing wind turbine prototypes, with plans for expansion. Manufacturers with proven regional value creation in Schleswig-Holstein can apply for a test site, subject to an evaluation by the Wind Energy Technology Institute (WETI) at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences and a decision by the allocation committee. The facility is municipally owned and operates on a non-profit basis. Sites are typically allocated for a period of 10 years. Starting in 2027, following the decommissioning of three prototypes, new test locations will become available again.
Tour 2: Hydrogen in Practice
(Hydrogen Filling Station, Husum, GP-JOULE GmbH)
Wednesday, 17 September 2025
Experience first-hand how regionally produced hydrogen from renewable energy sources is used in public transport. This excursion takes you from the exhibition grounds to the eFarm hydrogen filling station in Husum, offering insights into various aspects of the hydrogen mobility project.
Travel aboard an emission-free fuel cell bus to the station, where you’ll learn about the refueling process and the technical systems enabling efficient hydrogen fueling for cars, trucks, and buses. Special H2 trailers transport hydrogen from nearby production sites to the station, where compressors and stationary storage ensure optimal pressure for refueling.
The eFarm project includes multiple production sites and two hydrogen filling stations in the Nordfriesland region.
Tour 3: Hydrogen in Practice
(Citizens’ Energy Project, Grenzland Bürgerenergie eG, Ellhöft)
Thursday, 18 September 2025
Grenzland Bürgerenergie eG was founded on 8 July 2022 in Ellhöft. Any citizen who is at least 18 years old and resides in Schleswig-Holstein can become a member of the cooperative. By the end of March 2025, 2,138 individuals and entities had already acquired cooperative shares.
The initial projects — a 5 MW ground-mounted solar installation, a 4 MW electrolysis unit, and a hydrogen filling station — represent an investment volume of approximately €17 million. To date, cooperative members have contributed about €12 million in equity capital.
On-site at Grenzstraße 1: the 250 kW electrolyzer and the hydrogen car refueling station can be seen. Several hydrogen transport bundles are prepared to meet demand in northern Germany. Under construction: a container-based hydrogen filling station and the site for the additional 4 MW electrolyzers.
The tour continues through the existing wind farm (with turbines ranging from 1.3 MW to 6.15 MW), past the sculpture site and the planned 30 MW solar field, and on to the cooperative’s 5 MW ground-mounted solar system.
Right next to the access road to the solar field, a new substation is being built by Grenzstrom Bürgerwind GmbH & Co. KG. Here, electricity will be transformed from 30 kV to 110 kV. The energy will be transmitted via a 110 kV cable route to the feed-in point at the TenneT substation in Klixbüll Süd.
Next to the Ellhöft substation, a construction site for a roughly 90 MW battery storage facility is being developed.
Grenzland Bürgerenergie eG will be exhibiting at Husum Wind in Hall 2.
Tour 4: Electricity Storage
(ECO STOR / EPW in Bollingstedt)
Thursday, 18 September 2025
The battery storage facility in Bollingstedt is one of the largest in Germany. With a capacity of 103.5 MW and 238 MWh, it supports the expansion of renewable energy by storing excess electricity.
By actively participating in the markets for primary and secondary control reserves, as well as short-term markets (day-ahead auctions and intraday trading), the storage system helps to balance fluctuations in renewable energy production. Additionally, it has a price-dampening effect (reducing price peaks) in line with the merit order principle.
The storage system has been connected to the 110 kV grid since April 2025 and has been in operational service since May 2025.
The visit includes a walk through the facility with stations highlighting the inverters (32), battery storage containers (64), auxiliary power supply, and a view of the high-voltage switchgear. The construction process, functionality, and mode of operation will be explained on site.
