Successful offshore excursion with 600 industry representatives on the North Sea
Messe Husum & Congress and WAB e.V. report positive results // Around 20 offshore projects on the route // Intensive exchange between business, politics, associations and media // Further trips decided
Husum/Bremerhaven, 10 September 2026 – Around 600 representatives of the wind energy industry, from politics, associations and media, took part in the offshore excursion on 31 August in the run-up to HUSUM WIND 2027, organised by Messe Husum & Congress and WAB e.V. It is now certain: the originally exceptional event is not intended to be a one-off. The organisers have now expressed their intention to carry out further professionally accompanied offshore excursions together with the shipping company FRS.
Comparable trip over 15 years ago
On board the FRS Halunder Jet, the day-long trip led from Hamburg into the German North Sea to offshore wind farms of various operators.
During the trip, experts from operators, grid operators and other companies provided information about wind farms, infrastructure, technologies and current developments in offshore wind energy. Participants thus gained first-hand insights and were able to experience the scale of offshore expansion directly on site. A somewhat comparable excursion had last taken place over 15 years ago.
A special programme item was a live demonstration by Northern Helicopter on the deep-sea salvage tug NORDIC from the shipping company Fairplay Towage. This vessel operates on behalf of the German federal government and is an integral part of the emergency towing concept in the German North Sea. It is considered the most powerful salvage tug in German waters. Participants were able to observe a winching manoeuvre from close proximity and gained an impression of the high requirements for safety and rescue infrastructure at sea.
In addition to the specialist programme, the focus was particularly on the exchange within the industry. Project developers, grid operators, energy suppliers, suppliers, associations, political decision-makers and media representatives used the day-long trip for discussions and networking.
“Offshore wind energy is a central component of the energy transition and at the same time an industry with enormous technical and infrastructural requirements. The excursion made this dimension directly tangible. At the same time, it has shown how valuable a format is that brings together the various stakeholders in the industry for an entire day,” says Pascal Hofer, project leader of HUSUM WIND.
The excursion took place during a key phase for offshore wind energy. With the current cabinet decision on the Wind Energy at Sea Act (WindSeeG), reliable framework conditions are being created. This is intended to focus more heavily on investment security during further expansion.
Next offshore excursion to start in 2028
“Anyone who experiences offshore wind energy at sea gets a direct impression of the enormous performance and the scale behind this industry. Fittingly for the excursion, the ‘Borkum Riffgrund 3’ offshore wind farm, which we also passed, began its commercial operation on the same day. As WAB, we bring together the stakeholders along the entire value chain and were able to use our strong network to contribute a diverse live programme with around 60 speakers,” explains Markus Nölke, Managing Director of WAB e.V.
Messe Husum & Congress and WAB e.V. draw a consistently positive balance of the excursion. “The combination of direct insights into offshore projects, specialist information and all-day networking has proven to be a particular strength of the format,” says Pascal Hofer. It is therefore only logical to follow the development of the offshore market live with further trips to the wind turbines. The excursions would continue to be understood as a kick-off for HUSUM WIND. Accordingly, a further specialist excursion can be expected in 2028, then as a prelude to HUSUM WIND 2029.
The next HUSUM WIND will take place from 14 to 17 September 2027 in Husum. As Germany's most traditional trade fair for wind energy, it brings together companies and decision-makers from onshore and offshore wind energy as well as adjacent sectors of the energy industry.
