HUSUM WIND and WAB present Europe's largest offshore technical excursion

HUSUM WIND and WAB e.V. bring offshore wind to the North Sea // Around 500 participants expected for an extraordinary technical excursion // Focus on up to 25 wind farms and converter stations // Tour marks the kick-off for HUSUM WIND 2027

Husum/Bremerhaven, 29 June 2026 – Messe Husum & Congress, organiser of HUSUM WIND, and the wind energy industry network WAB e.V. will present comprehensive insights into key wind farm and grid connection projects in the North Sea on 31 August with an extraordinary offshore technical excursion. The organisers expect around 500 national and international participants for Europe's largest offshore excursion. A comparable tour last took place over 15 years ago.

Offshore wind energy plays a key role in implementing the energy transition in Germany, achieving climate goals, and ensuring energy independence and security of supply. The recently awarded contract in Germany for the construction of a converter platform with an order volume of 2.5 billion euros and 550 new jobs underlines that offshore wind also makes a significant contribution to value creation.

Installations in the German North and Baltic Seas have now exceeded the 10-gigawatt mark in offshore wind capacity. The German government has pledged to stick to the expansion targets. According to these, the installed capacity is to rise to 70 gigawatts by 2045.

The HUSUM WIND trade fair, located on the North Sea coast, is also campaigning for the expansion of wind energy and, together with the WAB e.V. industry network, is inviting participants to an excursion at sea. "Our route along various offshore projects of leading operators makes the performance of the industry visible live on site," says Pascal Hofer, Project Manager of HUSUM WIND. "At the same time, this excursion is a first step towards the most traditional and yet highly innovative wind energy trade fair – HUSUM WIND 2027."

"The tour will prove that the further expansion of offshore wind energy in Germany must be implemented quickly, ambitiously, and consistently. Every delay is counterproductive – there is still an urgent need for action, particularly regarding the reform of the Wind Energy at Sea Act (WindSeeG) and the associated rapid resumption of tenders for new project areas," explains WAB Managing Director Markus Nölke.

Insights from planning to operation – what the tour offers

The tour starts on 31 August at 7:00 am on the high-speed catamaran "Halunder Jet" operated by the FRS Helgoline shipping company in Hamburg. From there, the full-day trip follows a pre-planned route that illustrates the development of offshore wind energy over the past 15 years – from the first pilot project to today's 15 MW wind turbines. Depending on the weather, a total of up to 25 offshore wind farms and converter stations will be visited, where participants can experience offshore activities from close up. For selected projects, experts on site will explain technical backgrounds, current developments, and the challenges for the further expansion of offshore wind energy in Germany.

"How important this segment is for renewable energies is also shown by the current bookings for the upcoming HUSUM WIND," says Hofer. "Already at this stage, 60 per cent of our hall spaces are booked, including a third of exhibitors presenting products, services, and technologies in the offshore segment."

Information on participation and tickets

Check-in for the tour begins at 6:00 am at the Hamburg Landungsbrücken, Pier 3/4. The tour starts there at 7:00 am, and the return is scheduled for 7:00 pm. The number of stations visited may vary depending on weather conditions.
