Lights out at wind turbines: Demand-driven nighttime marking (BNK) in Germany and internationally
HUSUM WIND

Wind turbines are equipped with obstacle lights to make them visible to air traffic in the dark. The constant flashing is a nuisance for residents and therefore an obstacle to the acceptance of wind energy.
There is a technology called BNK that counteracts the constant flashing. This stands for demand-controlled night marking.
The use of BNK on wind turbines is required by law in Germany. Other countries are slowly following suit.
Lorenzo Emer provides an overview of how the technology works and what the legal situation is like at home and abroad.
