Guidelines for good community engagement
Success strategies for the accelerated expansion of wind energy from an international and local perspective: How good community engagement ensures the success of wind energy
Good community engagement is becoming increasingly important for the success of wind energy. This applies worldwide, especially in view of the fact that expansion outside China and Brazil lost enormous momentum last year.
In Germany in particular, where wind power use emerged as a bottom-up movement, there are many positive examples of how community engagement can be successful; in many cases, local people are even the driving force behind the projects. Some particularly active regions and companies, such as the district of Steinfurt, developed their own guidelines many years ago, which could be applied nationwide.
In view of this challenge, WWEA has developed international guidelines for good community engagement with the involvement of companies from different parts of the world. The guidelines are currently being evaluated with partners and will be presented to the public shortly.
