What is Clearance?

Clearance is the minimum amount of free space below the user to ensure they do not strike an obstacle during a fall. The calculation takes into account the fall height, the tearing length of the energy absorber, and a safety margin of 1 meter.

Factors for Calculation

The required clearance changes with every work situation. The most important criteria are:

  • Position of the user: Where is the anchor point located in relation to the harness?
  • Length of the system: The combination of connectors, energy absorber, and lanyard.
  • Weight: The total weight of the employee including equipment and tools.

Optimizing Safety

To shorten the fall distance, the anchor point should ideally always be located above the user. The shorter the lanyard, the lower the potential fall height. Products such as the ABSORBICA-I VARIO allow for flexible adjustment to the respective situation.

Use our tool to determine the exact clearance for your specific equipment and weight, thereby proactively avoiding dangerous situations.
