What does it take to build an offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea?
Dive into the construction of Baltic Eagle, our second offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea, with a capacity of 476 MW. Operational since 2025, Baltic Eagle reflects Iberdrola’s strong commitment to sustainability and broader ambition to develop a Baltic Hub for renewable energies.
Baltic Eagle is a key component of Iberdrola’s broader vision for renewable energy in the Baltic Sea, forming part of its strategic “Baltic Hub”. Located off the northeastern coast of Rügen, this offshore wind farm is being developed and operated from Mukran Port in Sassnitz, a hub for maritime logistics in the region. The Baltic Hub will be composed of three wind farm among which two are already operational.
The project features 50 high-capacity wind turbines, each rated at 9.5 MW, collectively delivering 476 MW of clean energy. These turbines are anchored on monopile foundations spread across a 40 km² area of the seabed.
Baltic Eagle is expected to make a significant environmental impact—reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 800,000 tonnes annually and generating enough electricity to power around 475,000 households.
