Service-Highlight HUSUM WIND 2025

Direct & battery marketing against negative electricity prices

Negative electricity prices reach record levels: Over 100 hours of negative electricity prices were recorded in May 2025. The reason for this was high feed-in from wind and solar power combined with low demand. This is a problem for some and an opportunity for others.

EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG

Flexibility and increased revenue through innovative storage solutions

The energy transition brings new challenges, with battery storage systems — especially large-scale ones — playing a central role. They optimize the profitability and flexibility of renewable energy projects by storing and marketing solar or wind energy efficiently, and feeding it into the grid as required. The result: higher revenues, more stable grids and a sustainable contribution to the energy future.

The expansion of solar and wind energy, as well as increasing sector coupling through electromobility, is leading to greater volatility in electricity generation and demand. Battery storage systems are essential for balancing out grid fluctuations and reducing peak loads. They offer flexible application options, whether as a 'co-location' directly next to wind or solar parks, or as an independent 'stand-alone' solution.

However, marketing battery storage systems requires a combination of technical know-how and strategic expertise. From integration and optimization to the development of trading strategies on electricity markets - sound knowledge is crucial. This opens up future-proof, high-yield opportunities that are economically attractive and will transform the energy industry in the long term, offering great potential for system operators and investors.

Our battery marketing services are designed to exploit the full potential of energy storage systems. We market battery storage systems using our fully automated virtual power plant network. We also offer all market access, balancing energy and spot markets, from a single source.

What is co-location and when is it suitable?

Co-location involves installing a ground-mounted system and a battery storage system at the same location. As with all other renewable energies, space and grid connection pose a challenge with batteries. However, co-location could be a smart solution to this problem.

This system offers numerous advantages, such as utilization of existing areas, a single approval procedure, lower costs per asset, operational management synergies and a grid connection relief option (e.g. through feed-in limitation).

Efficient energy solutions for your future

We market your generated and/or stored energy on the electricity exchanges, whether it is from PV, wind power or battery storage. In addition to direct marketing, we provide solutions for continued operation after EEG subsidies end. As one of the largest direct marketers in Germany, EnBW stands for maximum reliability.
