Converter Platform at Sea

To bring offshore wind power on shore, converters are needed. At sea, these systems are exposed to extreme conditions. Learn how offshore converters are engineered to withstand wind and waves in our video!

Amprion GmbH

Our offshore grid connection systems utilize direct current (DC) technology. Direct current is better suited than alternating current for transporting the large amounts of electrical energy generated in offshore wind farms to shore via cable with minimal losses. However, the wind turbines themselves generate alternating current. To convert this to direct current on-site, a converter is required. The challenge: The converter stations are located on the open sea and must meet special structural and electrical engineering requirements. We explain in our video how our converter platforms are constructed and how they withstand the harsh conditions at sea.
