Shaping the energy transition together
RWE involves municipalities, utilities, and citizens in wind and solar projects. This keeps revenues in the region, fosters acceptance, and drives local value creation – making the energy transition a joint success.
The expansion of renewable energy works best in close cooperation with local communities. That’s why RWE relies on participation models when developing wind and solar farms – involving municipalities, municipal utilities, and also citizens. This way, revenues remain in the region, creating acceptance and local value.
RWE has gained very positive experience with this approach in Germany and already implemented around 230 megawatts of wind and solar capacity with municipal or utility participation. Examples include a new wind project with the city of Bedburg, or two large solar plants (47.2 MWp) plus a battery storage system (4.1 MW / 8.1 MWh) at the Hambach open-cast mine, developed together with NEULAND HAMBACH GmbH. In Lower Saxony, successful project splits with citizen cooperatives have also been realized.
For RWE, clear and lean legal frameworks and limited risks for local stakeholders are key to successful participation. Only projects with reliable and predictable revenues are truly suitable for broad local involvement.
RWE demonstrates that the energy transition and local participation go hand in hand. Get in touch with us – or visit us in person at the RWE booth at Husum Wind. We look forward to meeting you!
