25 years of HUSUM Wind: heading towards 2015 with the wind behind us

The blue carpet was rolled out and the sun shone over Husum; perfect conditions for the anniversary celebrations in the NordseeCongressCentrum. More than 300 guests came to North Frisia from all over Germany. From pioneers and companions from the early days of the wind industry to the minister-president of Schleswig-Holstein, everybody enjoyed an evening that had plenty to offer.

17.10.2014 // Exhibition boss Peter Becker personally welcomed the guests at the entrance. In his welcoming speech he revisited the beginnings in Husum, told of the development over the last quarter of a century, and gave an insight into what can be expected at next year’s fair. Minister-president Albig particularly emphasised Husum’s importance in the development of the wind industry in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and Europe, and that the wind fair and the wind energy sector are inextricably linked with one another, an opinion shared by the participants of the panel discussion. The high profile panel gave an insight into their own very personal Husum experiences. Manfred Lührs, founder of 8.2 Consulting AG, and Hermann Albers, president of the German Wind Energy Association, spoke of the very first HUSUM Wind in the local livestock auction hall; from the spirit of optimism, cold feet in the unheated building, and business deals drawn up on a beer mat in the Brauhaus. Andreas Nauen, chairman of the board of Senvion SE, and Michael Liesner, head of policy and government relations at ENERCON GmbH, talked of the special atmosphere in Husum, and gave a brief insight into their plans for next year’s fair, which they are looking forward to with anticipation. The state minister for economic affairs Reinhardt Meyer joined the minister-president in emphasising Schleswig-Holstein’s pioneering role in the country’s energy transition.

The celebrations also included the launch of the Wind Chronicle, which looks back over the last 25 years of HUSUM Wind, from its beginnings in the local livestock auction hall in 1989 with just 20 exhibitors, to the most important wind industry event with 1,200 exhibitors and over 30,000 visitors. Published in a limited edition of 2,000 copies, the chronicle is available with immediate effect from Buchhandlung Liesegang and Schloss Buchhandlung in Husum and online via jubilaeum@husumwind.com. Over a quarter of the edition has already been sold (status 17 October 2014).

At the informal get-together afterwards the guests had the chance to mingle and swap ideas and memories in the accustomed, relaxed Husum atmosphere. True to tradition, the thoroughly enjoyable evening had to be rounded off with a last beer in the legendary Brauhaus, with the guests being conveyed there in the old post bus.
