North Rhine-Westphalia is HUSUM Wind’s partner state in 2017

Husum/Düsseldorf, 13 September 2016 – North Rhine-Westphalia has been announced as the partner state of HUSUM Wind 2017. Germany’s biggest energy state is developing into a climate protection state and is relying especially on expansion of wind energy to achieve its energy transition and climate protection goals. Since 2010, North Rhine-Westphalia has registered a continuous increase in installed capacity – in 2015 North Rhine-Westphalia was only behind Schleswig-Holstein in terms of national wind energy expansion, and has already doubled the 2015 expansion figures in the first half of this year.

14.09.2016 // With North Rhine-Westphalia, HUSUM Wind is continuing the concept successfully introduced in 2015 when Baden-Württemberg was the fair's first German partner state. Peter Becker, managing director of Messe Husum & Congress, welcomes this year's decision: "Numerous exhibitors from North Rhine-Westphalia have been coming here for years. In terms of exhibitor numbers, it was the second strongest federal state represented at HUSUM Wind in 2015. This once again shows that the expansion of wind energy is a national, not primarily North German, issue."

In North Rhine-Westphalia more than 16,500 people now work in the wind industry. "The traditionally strong machinery and plant manufacturers in our state have long established themselves also as suppliers to wind turbine manufacturers. There is correspondingly great interest in continuing to expand this innovative energy sector in the state, also as our contribution to energy transition", states Johannes Remmel, Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Nature and Consumer Protection for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. "We are Germany's top energy state in terms of both production and consumption, and we want it to stay that way. To achieve this we need to produce as much of our own renewable energy as possible."

The state government has set ambitious targets for the expansion of wind energy, with a 15 per cent greater share of electricity production by 2020, bringing it up to around 21 Twh. Specialist lectures, forums and other activities at HUSUM Wind will give visitors the opportunity to get to know the North Rhine-Westphalian wind industry better. In addition to the programme focused on North Rhine-Westphalia there will also once again be a large number of exhibitors from the state – also at the large communal North Rhine-Westphalia exhibition stand.

HUSUM Wind is expecting around 650 exhibitors and 18,000 visitors between 12 and 15 September 2017. This makes it the biggest wind industry trade fair with focus on the important German market. The scope of exhibitors extends across all sectors, from turbine manufacturers and utility companies to maintenance companies and wind industry suppliers, both onshore and offshore.
